Soroptimist Offers Scholarships and Grants to Women Striving to Better Their Economic Statis.
Violet Richardson Award
The award honors young women between the ages of 14 and 17 whose volunteer efforts include: helping other disadvantaged girls; fighting drugs, crime and violence; cleaning up the environment; and working to end discrimination and poverty.
Participating Soroptimist clubs implement the program at the local level, where awards vary. Club level recipients then become eligible for a $1,000.00 cash award, with a matching $1,000.00 cash award for the charitable organization of the recipient's choosing. The Soroptimist organization grants one finalist $2,500 award to the recipient's volunteer organization.
The scholarship is named for Violet Richardson Ward, the first president of the first Soroptimist club in 1921. Richardson Ward was committed to creating opportunities for girls and young women through her affiliations with Soroptimist, the Girl Scout Council and the American Association of University Women. her passion for community service, particularly as it affected women and girls, has bee an inspiration to Soroptimist throughout the Years.
Women´s Opportunity Awards
The Women´s Opportunity Awards aids women seeking to improve their economic status by gaining additional skills, training and education. The program helps women who, as the primary wage earners for their families, must improve their employment status by entering or returning to the work force.

Women´s Opportunity Awards applicants have faced severe hardships that have prevented them from pursuing and achieving their educational and professional goals. Most are single mothers and/or reliant on public assistance as their source of income. Many are domestic abuse survivors. The Women´s Opportunity Awards helps these women rebuild their lives though improved employment opportunities
The unique program supplies women with the resources they need to get ahead. Recipients may use the cash awards to offset any costs associated with their efforts to attain higher education, including tuition, books, supplies, childcare and car expenses.
